Are You Doing Too Much?

When is it okay to call a timeout on life and say “OKAY! No more new tasks. You add one more thing and I QUIT!”

When I figure out where that line is I’ll let you know. Because so far I haven’t found it. I wasn’t exactly raised to be an overly ambitious person, but I was told that no one could limit me except me. So I took it to heart. I forgot it for a while, but it’s like riding a bike. Even if it’s been a while, once you remember that you’re superman, you’re off flying again.

I’m currently looking at a task list that looks like this. For the next 12 months. If your list is anything like mine, by now someone has told you you’re doing too much.

  • Be full-time significant other
  • Learn a new language
  • Grow two side streams of income
  • Start a new side stream of income
  • Help start 2 new businesses for someone else
  • Work full-time
  • Blog multiple times a week
  • Full-time graduate school student
  • Maintain relationships with those around
  • Sleep
  • Buy a house

Am I nuts? Should one person do so many things that each require so much attention? I don’t normally put this list out there because people will think I am A) Insane; B) A glutton for punishment; and C) Someone who likes failure more than success.

Here’s the thing.

I am insane. Because I am willing to find my limits despite my mortality.
I will punish myself a thousand times over if it means meeting my goals.
I welcome failure because it means I’m trying. And it means I’m one step closer to success.

Why should you not attempt to do all the things you want to do? The things that make you feel like you’re living?

I’ll be waiting for a decent answer.
